Headed to Webster High School to watch our girls take on the rival Statesmen. . . Webster controlled the ball early, but failed to capitalize. Kirkwood got an early throw in from Paige Boyer, a cross by Katie Altenthal, and an impressive goal from a streaking Tara Bruns. She followed that with another off a header by Rachel Kibby, and the Pioneers had an early 2-0 lead they would never relinquish.
Highlighting the day was the return to action of Senior Meredith Openlander, who has missed much of the season after fracturing her collarbone. Meredith plays with as much passion and energy as anyone, and gives 110% on every play. Her runs to the goal always put pressure on the opposing team. She's been one of my favorite athletes to watch in my 18 years at KHS.
